Exploring New Heights: AIG at Y.E. Smith

By Anthony Alvernaz

Peer into the world of academically or intellectually gifted students at Y.E. Smith. This small, budding group may not be as large as some other AIG programs, but the relationships formed between the students and their AIG teacher Ms. Robinson are nothing short of gigantic. Even through their gifted designation, it is a constant work in progress to challenge the students and push them to the true limits of their abilities.

This project presented a unique set of challenges, some similar to those faced by working with students in general, and others more specific to the small nature of this group. A fly on the wall approach was taken in all interactions with the students, and over time the relationship between the students and the photographer grew close enough that this approach was finally realized in all interactions.
